Anastasios Kakamanoudis was born in 1986.
He completed his undergraduate studies at the Department of History & Archeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed the postgraduate studies program of the Department of History & Archeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in Classical Archaeology. The subject of his master’s thesis was ancient Greek painting, under the supervision of Professor of Classical Archeology B. Schmidt-Dounas. In the same department and under the supervision of the same professor, he prepared his doctoral thesis, dealing with the organization of burial sites in ancient Macedonia, from the early Iron Age to the Hellenistic period. He has been a scholarship holder of the State Scholarship Foundation (I.KY.) during his undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
He has worked in excavations and supervisions of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Thessaloniki Region (2009-2013) and for the Ephorate of Antiquities of Emathia (2013-2021), in the projects of the “preparation of the exhibitions of the New Museum of Aegae” and of “the consolidation, conservation, restoration and enhancement of the Palace of Aegae”.
He participates in the publication team of the salvage excavations of the necropolis of ancient Aegae (scientific supervisor: A. Kottaridi), studying the Classical and Hellenistic pottery, and in the publication team of the excavation of the archaic cemetery of Ηagia Paraskevi (scientific supervisor: K. Sismanidis).
His educational activities include the organization of educational workshops on ancient Greek painting, in collaboration with various institutes (University of Ioannina, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Ephorate of Antiquities of Emathia).
His main research interests include the archeology of death, with an emphasis on the spatial organization of ancient necropolises, ancient Greek painting, and especially its techniques, and pottery.
