Maria Vakondiou studied History and Archeology at the University of Crete (1998-2003) and continued her postgraduate studies at the same University. She received her MA in 2007. In 2018 she completed her PhD dissertation, titled Stone carvers and sculptors in Venetian Crete. Since 2003, she has been participating in research projects of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies-Foundation for Research and Technology, concerning Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman Crete.
Research Interests: architecture, art and technology in the eastern Mediterranean during the late medieval and the early modern period.
